NECCTON to Present at the Copernicus Marine Service Phase 2 Kick-Off Event!

We’re happy to announce that NECCTON will be making a key presentation at the Copernicus Marine Service Phase 2 (2025–2028) Kick-Off Event. This event marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration and innovation for sustainable ocean management, and NECCTON is proud to be a part of it!
Julien Brajard (NERSC) will be representing NECCTON, providing an in-depth overview of the cutting-edge science and tools we’re developing to enhance the capabilities of the Copernicus Marine Service.

Here’s what you can look forward to from NECCTON’s contributions:
🌍 Interlinked Modelling Framework: Our framework is designed to help monitoring and forecasting centers seamlessly integrate NECCTON code developments into their operational systems. This step-change will allow stakeholders to sustainably manage marine resources and protect ocean biodiversity more effectively.
🐟 Expanding Marine Product Portfolios: While the current Copernicus Marine Service focuses on plankton and micronekton, NECCTON is pushing the boundaries. We’re adding new dimensions, including fish populations, pollutants, and benthic flora and fauna, to better represent the complexities of marine ecosystems.

A Word from Our Coordinator, Stefano Ciavatta:
"This is a great opportunity to showcase how NECCTON and the Copernicus marine community can really work together to deliver new means to predict changes in our ocean ecosystems and support policymakers and managers in taking care of marine life."

This collaboration represents a significant leap forward in the ability to forecast and monitor marine ecosystems. It’s a clear demonstration of how science and innovation can come together to support sustainable marine management and biodiversity protection.

We’re looking forward to sharing our work and contributing to the collective efforts of the Copernicus Marine Service.
